Palau is a modern tourist area which faces the “Archipelago of Maddelena” marine park, from where many numerous ferries and boats depart. Amongst the most renowned tourist attractions are, Capo D'Orso, which is only 5 kilometres from the centre of town. It is a massive rock formation which resembles a large crouched bear. Only a few kilometres from the centre of town is the marine village Porto Rafael, named after its founder Rafael Neville, Count of Berlanga, who was able to camouflage the comfortable villas amongst the granite and junipers of the coast and who made Punta Sardegna the splendid pearl of the Mediterranean.
