Arzachena

The tourist boom which made the “capital” of the Costa Smeralda is recent history. Thousands of years ago one of the most mysterious and fascinating prehistoric civilizations, the Nuraghe, flourished in the area which is now filled with modern granite houses. There are many archaeological sites found in this town including il tempietto di Malchitti, Albucciu nuraghe , li Muri, il La Presgiona nuraghe, the Giant Tombs of Li Lolghi and Coddu Ecchju. The most fascinating monument which is also the symbol of the town, is a large mass of granite in the shape of a mushroom which has been formed through the years through atmospheric erosions.
